Greece’s National Objectives and Performance in View of the Europe 2020 Targets

The Europe 2020 Strategy, which was adopted as a growth strategy in 2010, has set five targets on employment, innovation, education, social inclusion, climate and energy to be reached by 2020. The Europe 2020 targets have been translated into national objectives. The aim of the article is to assess Greece’s national objectives and its progress towards the Europe 2020 targets. Greece’s national objectives and performance are compared with other member states’ national objectives and performances to underline the gap between the best and worst performing countries and the extent to which the European Union economy is heterogeneous.
